HISTORY OF GODFREY…
Godfrey Chevrolet's roots can actually be traced to the very beginning of General Motors and the beginning of the automotive industry. Both of Joe Godfrey 's grandfathers were pioneers in the early stages of GM. Joe's paternal grandfather Edward R. Godfrey was President of Frigidaire, served as Special Assistant to Harlow Curtis, and also served on the General Motors Board of Directors. Joe's maternal grandfather Guy S. Garber was affiliated with General Motors for 60 years. Garber was first noticed in 1907 by GM Founder Billy Durant for his exceptional sales ability. Durant persuaded Garber to become a factory representative for Buick. He started in Battle Creek and achieved fabulous success, so much so that he was asked by GM to handle a much bigger challenge in Saginaw . Garber's responsibilities grew precipitously, and at a very young age he became Buick's first Michigan distributorship which served 30 counties in the state including Wexford County . In total there were 47 Garber Buick dealerships from Saginaw north including Cadillac, Traverse City, and Big Rapids to name a few.
Joe Godfrey 's father Joseph E. Godfrey also worked in the automotive business, starting on the assembly line and working his way up through the ranks. He served as Plant Manager of Saginaw Steering Gear, and near the end of his exemplary career was a Final Group Executive Vice-President of General Motors. At one point Joseph M. Godfrey was responsible for 211,000 GM employees.
FUTURE OF GODFREY…
Guy S. Garber, maternal grandfather of Joe Godfrey Jr., was well known for his strict dedication to servicing the customer. He was quoted as saying, “Service does not mean something for nothing, but it does mean prompt, efficient, and courteous attention at a fair price.” That same philosophy embodies everything we do at Godfrey Chevrolet and www.godfreychevroletbuick.com . We are proud of our family's automotive heritage, and we look to the future with pride maintaining what they taught us, the lessons and importance of providing exceptional customer service at a fair and reasonable price. The automobile business runs in the blood of the Godfrey and Garber families. President and owner Joe Godfrey graduated with honors from Northwood University with a bachelor's degree in business administration and associates degree in automotive marketing. After starting his automotive career in Naples Florida, Evan Garber Godfrey has returned home to join his father at the dealership. Evan has a business administration degree from Central Michigan University and recently graduated from the NADA Academy . The Godfrey family is genuinely grateful for all the support Northern Michigan has given the dealership in the last 30 years, and we look forward to serving you for another 30 years with the same caring attentive service you've come to expect from our dealership.
